HDNUG's 46th meeting was excellent both in content and attendance. Venkat Subramaniam's ".NET Gotchas" was a big hit.
Over 110 people were present to hear Venkat talk about things in .NET that can grab you when you are not looking.
His latest book is .NET Gotchas Venkat did not limit himself to one programming language; he talked about things that can happen in C# as well as VB.NET. He showed us that what worked in one language did not always work in the other. He also had some interesting things to say about how to set up the IDE (for example, he likes to have line numbers on when he is developing). An interesting aspect of his talk was that he showed lots of code samples and very few powerpoint slides. He also did not use prepared code samples; he typed the code in as he was speaking. How many of us can do that? This would be very hard for a less accomplished speaker, but not for Venkat. HDNUG was very glad to have him speak and based on the feedback we heard, we would be glad to have him speak again at a future meeting. |
