I was first introduced to this book when Venkat Subramaniam presented it at a Houston .NET User Group meeting. He gave a presentation and showed us examples from his book. Venkat is an excellent speaker and after the presentation, I was definitely interested in reading his book. If you are interested in increasing your skills in VB.NET or C#, I definitely would recommend this book. This is not the type of book that you need to read in a sequential order. Instead, you pick a topic and read the three to four pages covering that topic. This is a good format for me because when I have a few minutes of free time, I get to read another of his interesting topics. The book consists of eight chapters. Each topic has code examples and guidelines. The code is also available for download from an online resource. Some of the topics covered by this book include garbage collection, CLR Framework, language API, inheritance, polymorphism, and multithreading among others. I would rate this book as a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10. The only reason I would not rate it as a 10 is because some of the topics do not interest me. I do like the format in which the book is written. I also like the examples and the fact that the code is written in both VB.NET and C#. I would recommend this book to Senior Programmers or Project Managers. |
